The term “Stye” could sound odd or abnormal, but it means a small painful boil, an inflamed hair follicle or an infection of a sebaceous gland in the edge of the eyelid. A stye develops mostly due to the debilitated condition in which this disease occurs. Few children are very much prone to these infections. It got all signs of inflammation, swelling, redness, pain and heat. It occurs on the edge of the eyelid.

There are many homemade remedies, herbal remedies and medicines to treat an eye stye. It is always good to use an herbal or homemade remedy as soon as any symptom appears such as pain, redness or watering.

Take two cups of water and boil it, along with a teaspoon of turmeric powder. Let this boil and evaporate until you are left with one cup. Cool the solution down; it should be strained four to five times using a fine muslin material. After the solution has been strained, it is now ready to be used; use only one drop at a time when applying. One drop in the infected eye three to four times in a day could result vanishing infection.

The next treatment for an eye stye involves coriander seeds. Similar to as if you were making an herbal tea, measure out a teaspoon of coriander seeds and boil them in one cup of water. After the water has cooled down, use the solution on the infected eye three to four times a day to get rid of the infection.

The next herbal remedy for to treat an eye stye is made with guava leaves. This treatment helps reduce and sooth any redness, pain and swelling that you may have. Place the warmed guava leaves on a warm moist cloth and use this as a compress on the infected eye.

Make an eye wash by dissolving two to three grains of alum in a cup of water. Using this water solution as an eye wash, could help you treat an eye stye.

To get rid of stye, a clove can potentially help as a treatment too. Take a clove and soak it in water, and then apply it over the stye. This can definitely provide you with some relief from an eye stye.

Make a concoction by mixing a handful of acacia leaves in two cups water, and then boil the mixture. This concoction should work as a treatment for your eye stye; Use it as a compress on the infected eye.

To reduce swelling on a stye eye, a shredded potato can be used as a poultice over the infected eye to help reduce the swelling.

If the eye stye is causing problematic symptoms such as itchiness, inflammation and sore eyes, try applying the pulpy side of an aloe slit to the infected eye.

Another eye stye treatment that can be used is a baked or grilled apple that can be made as poultice and applied over the infected eye. After the apple has been baked or grilled, mash it up and wrap it in a damp cloth, which will keep it very warm. This remedy is yet another treatment that works well on an eye stye.

If the stye does not respond well to any of the remedies listed above, then a surgical drainage of the stye is only option left.

Like all other eye infections, an eye stye is very contagious. An extremely high level of hygiene is important when dealing with an eye stye. Make sure you do not use anyone else’s clothes to dry the face.
